From the Catholic Liturgy for the 28th Sunday in Ordinary
Time, Oct. 9, 2016. Our first reading is from the Old Testament Second Book
of Kings, 5:14-17 but to get the full story start at verse 1. Naaman, a
powerful Syrian warrior is healed of leprosy by doing something that sounded so
ridiculously simple: bathe in the Jordan River. He was insulted at first,
thinking this simple action to be stupidity, but in the end he obeyed and was cured. God’s
powerful intervention into our lives, into our history, even into our politics,
often begins with something that seems to be too usual, ordinary and even to
some, ridiculous. In 1917, God sent the Virgin Mary to a three shepherd
children in Fatima, Portugal with a Peace Plan from Heaven. It seemed to many
to be too simple and ridiculous yet miracles and historical events have proved
its power and truth. What is it? In summary it is this: pray the rosary daily for
peace and trust in God’s power to save.
